An academic tower rises in West Philadelphia’s emerging innovation district.
This research facility for Drexel University includes nearly 2,250 unitized curtainwall panels, in addition to “long-span” feature glazing hung from steel mullions at the building's entrance. Each prefabricated unit incorporates multiple glazing types, all structurally glazed at Island’s facility before being brought to site—including custom screen-printed ceramic frit patterns and shadowbox conditions. In total, Island’s team was responsible for the system development and delivery of more than 160,000 SF for the soon-to-open Wexford Science + Technology hub.
The project is part of the early phases of the uCity Square initiative, which seeks to transform 14 acres in West Philadelphia into a mixed-use innovation district.
