An academic building creates new opportunities for exceptional students.
Island partnered with Joseph Jingoli & Sons and Elkus Manfredi on the first of two significant new developments on the Rutgers New Brunswick campus, aimed at creating a live/learn environment for incoming students.
The megapanel facade system allowed for incorporation of brick, stone, and metal cladding, tying each wing of the Honors College to architectural language from the surrounding campus.
Through an assembly-line process, each panel was fabricated as a turnkey unit, complete with operable glazing, louvers, and even a functioning timekeeper at the central clocktower.
Erected with a series of mobile hydraulic cranes, installation of the complex facade kept the floor slabs free, allowing for simultaneous work of interior trades.
