A state-of-the-art medical facility tailor-made for brownstone Brooklyn.
The Joseph S. and Diane H. Steinberg Ambulatory Care Center provides 165,000 square feet of new healthcare facilities to Brooklyn residents, including an emergency department, a cancer center, and doctors’ offices.
To harmonize the building with the surrounding brownstone neighborhood, Perkins Eastman Architects incorporated terracotta panels into the facade. The design also includes a similarly colored ceramic frit pattern applied to many of the floor-to-ceiling glass panels.
Island tailored one of its pre-engineered unitized facade systems to incorporate the terracotta and glass rainscreen cladding in addition to metal panels that were formed in-house.
Perkins Eastman’s design features two different surface textures for the terracotta and varying frit patterns and vertical fin depths for the glass. Island’s design and manufacturing teams worked closely together to track all panel variations to ensure that they were correctly fabricated in Island's New York shops, eliminating the need for substantial field coordination that would have otherwise been needed.
The facade system was designed to meet strict performance criteria, in keeping with the building’s LEED Gold criteria.
